Soft Bowls

“The Soft Bowls series is part of the Still Life project, where Melvær reinterprets traditional still life motives. As the title indicates, the topic of the project is food: storage, preparation, presentation, and eating. These objects spring out of simple and ordinary, yet essential and vital, actions that tie people together across cultural differences. The objects are designed for everyday situations in Norway – they are Norwegian. However, we have been inspired by Japanese culture, or rather by  our particular understanding of Japanese culture. In other words, we have attempted to make Norwegian objects that could also be relevant to Japanese living. Our goal is to draw inspiration and knowledge from how our work is experienced in Tokyo.” Kristene

This is the most amazing video that shows the power of branding and a good logo design. A five year old goes through some images of different brands, and describes each of them. It is fairly obvious to see what brands he connects with, (Apple, Starbucks, etc.) and which he does not (Motorola, Jaguar, etc.).

From the brands he didn’t recognize, like jaguar, that is okay. Why would a high end luxury car brand want a child knowing them? That might be the case, but that same child knew the mercedes logo. Which luxury brand will this child grow up dreaming of owning?

This is the kind of raw data that all companies covet. (If only the advertising industry could get such raw and unfiltered data out of all demographic groups.)

Until next time marketers!

Field Notes Style: A DIY Valentine

I´m not a Valentine’s Day fan at all, but this video is awesome. Field Notes added a new notebook to their line “Red Blodded”: sweet just in time for Valentine’s Day, and Forever After.
